will present “Envisioning the Salt River’s Future: A Hand Papermaking and Creative Reflection Workshop”
Luke Ramsey-Wiegmann is a PhD Candidate in ASU’s School of Sustainability. He studies how land management choices shape the ecosystems in the urban Salt River corridor. Luke has worked with the Central Arizona-Phoenix Long-Term Ecological Research Program since 2021, helping monitor ecological communities throughout the corridor. Part of this research involves developing methods to make paper from plants removed from urban wetlands as part of local stewardship activities, and facilitating workshops to teach how to make paper from the removed plants. While demonstrating this method, Luke is also collecting data about what stakeholders and stewards want to see for the future of the Salt River’s management through a sorting activity and written/drawn reflection. The results of this study will be displayed alongside participants’ reflections as part of a community art show next year.
There is a limit of 20 as this is a hands-on workshop. The gate to the parking lot closes at 6 p.m. so you must arrive by then.
