Join us at the Arizona Riparian Council Fall Campout and Get-Together on Saturday-Sunday, October 1-2, 2005. We will be camping at the EC Bar Ranch owned by Jim Crosswhite. The 394 acre ranch is located near the town of Nutrioso. We encourage everyone to arrive by 1 pm on Saturday. A map to the EC Bar Ranch will be emailed to those who register.
Jim Crosswhite is a rancher who has worked closely with State and Federal agencies to implement several conservation projects. These projects range from installing stream stabilization structures and constructing elk exclosure fences to planting over 80,000 willows. Mr. Crosswhite has been recognized for his work to enhance the flood plain and associated riparian vegetation which has caused a reduction in sediments entering the stream and improved the riparian habitat. It is hoped that these improvements will benefit the Little Colorado spinedace, a small native fish that is federally listed as threatened. At some point the Southwestern willow flycatcher, listed as endangered, may come to this area. The Saturday afternoon program will begin at 1:00 and will include a walk along Nutrioso Creek and a discussion of the practices that have been implemented on the ranch. Representatives from several agencies will provide information on native fish monitoring, water quality best management practices, habitat improvements, and the various grant funds that have been utilized. The group will also discuss what should be in a management plan for the southwestern willow flycatcher.
Dinner will be prepared for us by Bill Greenwood, Eagar Town Manager. You will be own your own for breakfast Sunday morning. Portable restroom facilities will be provided. This year a small fee is being charged to offset a portion of the costs associated with dinner and restroom facilities.
