The 17th Annual Meeting was held at the Hon-Dah Resort and Casino near Pinetop, Arizona. The theme related to the wildfires that had recently occurred and the resulting impacts to our watersheds and riparian areas.
On Friday morning we had a panel of speakers who addressed the topic of the history of fires on the Arizona landscape and assessments from a variety of experts on both the positive and negative implications of the catastrophic fires and planned fires to achieve habitat management goals. This was followed by a group discussion. Friday afternoon was for technical paper presentations, some relating to the theme of the meeting and others on riparian issues.
Saturday we held a field trip to Stermer Ridge near Heber that had been impacted by the 2002 summer’s fire and was the study area of Pete Ffolliott, one of our plenary speakers.
